Dia 1: Welcome to Galapagos & Bachas Beach Wildlife
Your 15-day Galapagos expedition begins at Baltra Airport, where a Hermes guide will welcome you to the islands and escort you to the superyacht. Once aboard, enjoy lunch and an introduction to Hermes before beginning your first exploration. In the afternoon, visit Bachas Beach on Santa Cruz Island. Its soft white sand is formed from decomposed coral and provides an important nesting site for sea turtles. Along the lava rocks bordering the water, look for colorful Sally Lightfoot crabs moving across the shoreline. The surrounding area also provides opportunities to observe frigatebirds, Blue-footed Boobies, and sea lions. This first excursion introduces the combination of distinctive landscapes and remarkable wildlife encounters that will characterize the journey through the Galapagos.
Dia 2: Isabela’s Volcanic Shores: Tagus Cove & Urbina Bay
Explore two remarkable locations on Isabela Island, beginning with Tagus Cove, a historic anchorage used by whalers and pirates dating back to the 1800s. After a dry landing, follow a trail along the slopes of Darwin Volcano to panoramic viewpoints and Darwin’s Lake, a saltwater crater lake above sea level. A dinghy ride beneath the cliffs offers opportunities to observe Blue-footed Boobies, Brown Noddies, and Flightless Cormorants before snorkeling with Galapagos Penguins, schools of fish, and possibly sea turtles. In the afternoon, discover Urbina Bay, shaped by a dramatic geological uplift in 1954 that exposed part of the shallow sea bottom and coral reef. Walk among coral fossils while looking for Galapagos Land Iguanas, then snorkel near a small resident Galapagos Penguin colony with opportunities to observe Marine Iguanas feeding underwater on algae.
